Okay. So I was reflecting in my car while I was driving home this evening and I’ve been praying about God working on my heart so I won’t be such a prideful person. Then, I came home today, and I opened my devotional up and it was talking about glorifying God in the area of what you wear and I started reading. It used this verse:

Romans 12:2

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing, and perfect will.

So how can this go along with the way that you dress and act in our world. Well in the devotional, it told you to think about what you think when you get ready in the morning. Are you thinking…

“Hmmm, I’m gonna be the finest chick out tonight”

or

“This will definitely get (_______’s) attention”

or

“I want to make sure that no girl can compete with me today, I’m gonna look the best!”

Now there’s nothing wrong with wanting to look good. I myself like to look nice, but this verse and this devotional got to me on a deeper level. Let me start you off from the basics. God, our God (Jesus) wants the glory in our lives. That means in ALL areas, he wants us to glorify him. So if we are trying to find ways for us to be glorified, then we have the “CELEBRITY SYNDROME”, the desire to been seen as better because of the way we look, dress, or act.

I myself can fall into this category. I’m not gonna lie that the first thing that comes to my head when I put on clothes or makeup is…

“I want to make sure that I can look the best and no one can look better than me today”

or

“Yea, this will totally get (______’s) attention”

Now, I may be no Kim Kardashian, and anyone who knows me knows that I am cheap, but with God it’s a matter of the heart, (what really matters to you)

So God taught me through this that my desire to get attention was more important for me than for Him to get glory throughout the day. Because how can we expect to live a day filled with God if we wake up THINKING ABOUT ONLY OURSELVES!

We can get angry at the world and call people selfish for not caring for the needy or poor or children but are WE even doing anything? Do we ALSO have a heart of selfishnes?

I’m not gonna lie that I can TOTALLY be there, so I’m gonna give you a challenge…

1. Use this url and print out a copy of this verse and place it somewhere you can see it everyday

http://c.ymcdn.com/sites/www.nationalcouncilofchurches.us/resource/resmgr/women’s_ministries/romans-12.2.gif

2. Try to spend at least 10 minutes each day listening to some Christian music (any genre) and pray that God will show you where you need to go for day so he can be glorified (if you really want a challenge, pray that he humbles you that day too)

3. Take one day and don’t look at yourself in the mirror (besides brushing your teeth, hair, etc) or look at your photos on FB, Twitter, your phone, but focus on God through prayer, music, etc. and see how your day is different.

4. Tell other people about the challenge!

*And if you’re the opposite and you don’t like to dress up, it’s okay. Pray that God will be your main focus in your life still! God can still build you up so your focus is on Him instead of whatever takes up your time during the day :)
